I do a lot of recording on my own. I've been in love with radio since early adolescence and regret taping over my early airchecks of Quincy, IL and Central Illinois area stations. As a fellow airchecker put it very well, I record because in ten years most of the stations in existence today will be gone... just as 99Q and KQ-102/Quincy, KZ-93/Peoria, and Power 96/Champaign are long gone. Those that remain have changed dramatically. Airchecking is a way of holding on to what will soon be a piece of history. Besides that, it's the hobby I love.

Most traders share these basic rules:

In a trade, anything new you record should be over the air, not an internet stream. All FM should be in stereo. Make sure the mp3 bitrate is at least 128 kbps @ 44 mHz (AM can be less) and the audio is not overmodulated. The quality should be close to what you hear over the air with a decent radio. Obviously, older airchecks don't have to sound pristine.

Don't let these frighten you. They're easy, and they result in good quality airchecks for both of us. I am happy to work with new traders in helping to achieve these common standards. If you have your own rules, please let me know and I'll be happy to make accommodations.
